Creative Counselling for Children & Adolescents

Helping children build confidence, resilience, and emotional understanding through play and creativity

With nearly 40 years of experience as a teacher and over 5 years as a child and adolescent therapist, I offer a safe, nurturing space where children can explore their emotions, thoughts, and sense of self. My approach combines creativity, play, and therapeutic techniques to help children express their worries, build emotional resilience, and discover their inner strengths.

Through counselling, children begin to see themselves as brave and capable—even when they feel anxious or overwhelmed. They learn to navigate challenges, develop healthy coping strategies, and grow in confidence.

I support children who are:

  • Struggling to make or keep friends

  • Anxious, shy, or nervous in social settings

  • Finding it hard to lose or cope with failure

  • Perfectionistic or overly self-critical

  • Refusing to attend school

  • Coping with grief, loss, or parental separation

I work with self-managed NDIS clients, offering tailored counselling that meets your child’s unique needs.

As a clinical supervisor I offer clinical supervision to Level 1 and 2 counsellors registered with the Australian Counselling Association. I also offer external supervision for students on placement.

Services

I offer counselling sessions for children using a playful and creative approach that helps them express themselves in ways that feel natural and safe. I work closely with both children and their parents to nurture strong, connected relationships. My goal is to support parents in understanding their child’s emotional world and unique needs—so together, we can foster growth, resilience, and wellbeing.

I am registered as Clinical Supervisor with the Australian Counselling Association College of Supervisors and am available to provide supervision to ACA Level 1 and 2 counsellors or as an external supervisor to students on placement. Supervision sessions are conducted online or face to face.

Parent session

Before starting sessions with your child, I meet with parents or carers to understand what brings you to counselling. We’ll talk about what’s been working, what hasn’t, and explore strategies you might try at home. Together, we’ll decide on a clear focus for the sessions with your child—ensuring the support is tailored to their needs and your goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is a brief list of questions and answers that might be helpful for you.

No you do not need to go to a GP and get a GP referral or Mental Health Plan to see me. This also means I am unable to offer Medicare rebates or Private Health fund rebates. You can book in for counselling without a diagnosis of any kind.

There is no real answer to this, sorry. Generally, the first session is with the parent only, this allows us to have an open and honest conversation. The second session is when the child or teen comes along, sometimes parents stay in this session others just wait outside the room. I really am guided by the child in that decision and follow whatever their preference is.

Yes I am able to provide counselling support to children, teens and parents who have counselling identifies in their plan. I am not a registered NDIS provider, please get in contact so we can discuss this further.
